Description:
AD|ARC (Administrative Data | Agriculture Research Collection) is an England and Wales led project aiming to create an anonymised agricultural data resource to generate new evidence to support farmers, farming households and farm workers. AD|ARC links de-identified electronic records that are collected by departments across different governments. This has been split into two distinct periods based on the Census dates to differentiate them. AD/ARC – 2011 England has been completed and for 2021 the England linked dataset will provide data from the ONS including the 2021 Population Census and the Inter-Departmental Business Register (Business Structure Database). The Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) have also provided two sets of data - a subset of the 2010 and 2021 DEFRA English Farm Structure Survey data, and a subset of data on rural payments made in England between 2020 and 2022.

The DEFRA Farm Structure Survey dataset contains crop areas, livestock numbers and the numbers in the agricultural labour force. The rural payments dataset is provided by the Rural Payments Agency and contains payments made under the Basic Payment Scheme as well as agri-environment schemes such as the Sustainable Farming Incentive.
