Ofqual data is linked to DfE data.
Ofqual data includes information on GCSE and A level qualifications and examinations taken by students of all ages in England between 2017 and 2024.
Ofqual data includes detailed information on the qualifications taken (such as subject and tier of entry) and granular data on students’ attainment. For 2017 to 2019 and for 2022 to 2024 when exams were taken normally, the data set includes qualification grades and marks (incl. post-review grades). For 2020, the data set includes Centre Assessment Grades and calculated grades from the standardisation model, which were used to determine the awarded grade. For 2021, the data set includes Teacher Assessment Grades. Ofqual data also includes indicators of students’ prior attainment, students’ demographic information and qualification grade boundaries.
Department for Education (DfE) National Pupil Database (NPD) covers all pupils in schools in England up to age 19 compiled from data supplied by local authorities, schools, exam centres and awarding organisations.
Exam results datasets:
• pupil-level results by qualification taken for Key Stages 4 and 5, covering A levels, GCSE and other general and vocational/technical qualifications including aggregated achievement indicators, e.g. EBacc, Attainment 8
and Progress 8, and
• pupils' prior attainment e.g. achievement indicators, teacher assessments
and test results for Key Stages 1 and 2.
Pupil datasets:
• gender/sex, age, language spoken, free school meal eligibility and special
educational needs, and
• socio-demographic characteristics (e.g. ethnicity) and socio-economic indicators (e.g. IDACI score).
Exam centre data:
• type of school or institution, its description, main language (English or Welsh) and school admissions policy.
